day 1: arrival day lisbon (D)
transfer from the airport to the hotel with afternoon free at your leisure.
wander the chiado and bairro alto area. ride on the electrico tram and discover alfama - one of the oldest districts of lisbon.
in the evening, meet your guide and the rest of the group in a local restaurant for dinner.
overnight in lisbon.
day 2: sintra and pena palace (B)
after breakfast, you will be en route to sintra!
discover the 19th century pena palace atop a hillside. witness its gothic turrets and watchtowers and culture yourself in the history of this beautiful location.
from sintra, you'll make your way to cascais to admire the views in cabo da roca.
taste the delicious portuguese custard tarts at a "pastels de nata" shop.
return to lisbon for the night.
day 3: obidos and fatima (B)
depart lisbon for obidos - a stunning portuguese town.
with heaps of free time to wander around, you'll be impressed by the impressive medieval castle before continuing to nazare.
you'll then continue on towards fatima, where one of the world's most important catholic pilgrimage site is located.
overnight in fatima.
day 4-5: porto (B x1)
continue north after breakfast, passing tomar and onto coimbra.
arrive in porto in the afternoon, where you'll check into your hotel and wander the narrow cobbled streets.
try some tasty local cuisines at one of the many waterfront restaurants and cafes.
come day 5, you'll spend the morning sightseeing in porto. in the afternoon, you'll have free time for shopping and more wandering through the gorgeous town and strolling along the riverside promenade.

day 6: wine tasting in mateus (B, D)
drive inland towards guimaraes with its famous castle, labyrinth of narrow streets, and picturesque squares surrounded by medieval buildings.
enjoy a leisurely walk around the town before heading off towards the douro wine region.
stop in mateus to enjoy some winetasting before heading on towards the city of viseu. this charming city has lovely stone paved streets and alleys, public gardens, and a beautiful central square.
you'll spend the night in a pousada (a historic portuguese hotel) in viseu where you will enjoy a dinner of regional dishes.
day 7: salamanca and madrid (B)
say goodbye to portugal as you venture eastward into spain. first stop - salamanca.
experience the magnificent monuments with its unique architectural styles. sneak into the backstreets of the gorgeous city with a local guide.
after lunch, you'll continue your journey to madrid.
in the afternoon, a guided tour of spain's capital city is scheduled where you'll discover the important sites of the city.
check-in to the accommodation for the final night of the tour.
overnight in madrid.
day 8: madrid (B)
check-out after breakfast.
